Professor Mihai Pop and Folk Customs Mihai Pop was constantly concerned with the image of Romania abroad and he could be characterized as a „cultural diplomat”. Professor Pop taught us that facts should be always considered within their ethnological/ anthropological context. Folk customs are a hallmark to the interpretation of folk cultures. Folk customs should be interpreted at the same time as „mechanisms” that set up social order, as communication acts and also as a source of promoting local tradition through artistic events or festivals Rezumat Preocuparea pentru reprezentarea României dincolo de graniţe a fost o constantă a activităţii lui Mihai Pop, care poate fi caracterizat ca „un diplomat cultural”. Pentru profesorul Pop, faptele de folclor trebuie cercetate întotdeauna în contextul lor etnologic/ antropologic. Obiceiurile populare constituie un punct de referinţă pentru interpretarea culturii populare în ansamblu. Ele pot fi privite, simultan, ca „mecanisme” ce reglementează ordinea socială, ca acte de comunicare, dar şi ca sursă de valorificare a tradiţiilor locale prin spectacole şi festivaluri. |
